2020 is a year that will go down in history for many reasons. It is a year that ushered in financial highs as well as terrible lows not seen in decades. But one amazing unexpected thing happened in 2020, in the middle of worldwide unrest as a result of a virus; one local women’s boutique business experienced explosive growth.
Earlier this year, Detroit Wedding Day introduced Rosa Jordan, the owner of Roses R Red, Inc., to our magazine readers. Rosa has a successful online and fashion and accessories boutique for women. Despite the unforeseen chain of events resulting from the pandemic, ironically, due to major retailers changing the way they conducted business, it fueled her business catapulting it to new heights.
New Business Expands
We visited Rosa at her new location on Five Mile Road in Livonia. Since the beginning of the year, she experienced so much business growth that she had to take her business in a different direction. So, with the support of her husband and children, she stepped out on faith to open the boutique in its new retail space.
We wondered what motivated her to take a bold move during these days of uncertainty. Her response, “I’m a child of God.”
She continued, “I am a happy, beautiful woman. A woman who loves people. A woman who reaches out to help anyone that’s in need. I am a woman that loves God and chases after God”.
In fact, in addition to Rosa being a business owner, wife of 16 years, and a mother of three children ages 12 to16, she is also an ordained minister who is active in her church and the community.
When asked what made her want to start a business, she said, “I was a hairdresser at first. I graduated from cosmetology school, but I also loved both hair and clothes. Hair and women’s clothing go together. So, when I decided to get into the boutique business, my passion changed from doing hair into women’s clothing. That is when I decided to open up a women’s boutique business.”
In fact, Rosa shared that she started experimenting doing hair when she was nine years old. She had an interest in creating different hairstyles on anyone who would volunteer to be her customer.
Her interest in fashion started as a result of her taking a clothing design sewing class in high school.
“I started off making two-piece items. After that, I always thought about being a fashion designer. That was my dream,” she said.
Being an avid learner who delights herself with making things look beautiful, Rosa enhanced her passion over the years. Her love to make people look good motivated her to not only become a cosmetologist specializing in hair care and hair growth but also to a certified dental assistant in addition to being a fashion advisor.
It’s ironic that during these days, when many businesses are being extremely cautious and some even closing their doors, Rosa has opened her doors to new clients.
“I never thought about opening up a business until now. My goal was to always help. I enjoy looking at people with different clothing and hairstyles. My own unique way of doing hair and dressing women,” she stated.
For many years, Rosa visited different parts of the community giving out clothing to those who were in need. She continued this practice even during the pandemic, but instead of only giving out clothes, she also distributed face masks, hand sanitizers, and food items.
Rosa has been gutsy to open a boutique at this time, but she finds comfort in her decision as she leans on her strong faith for support.
She continued, “I had to seek God first. Sometimes we can step out and think that we are doing the right thing, and it ends up back-firing. I prayed and asked God where do you want me to be during this season…during this pandemic season. So, when I asked God to lead me, I ended up here.”
Fashion, Accessories, and More
The boutique, an intimate space that features today’s modern women’s styles, caters from small to plus sizes. The clothing style varies from casual wear to business chic fashion. Additionally, the boutique has an assortment of accessories including, purses, shoes, sunglasses, and even a small collection of popular strip eyelashes. As the business matures, Rosa plans to expand the business to include beauty products and hair care services, including wigs and hair accessories.
Rosa, who has an energetically friendly personality, springs to life as customers discover her new business. Her infectious enthusiasm has even rubbed off on her 12-year-old daughter, who is often found right beside her mom. Her daughter has started exploring starting a small business of her own.
So, whether if Rosa is coloring locks of hair, whitening teeth, or dressing the woman for that night out on the town, her goal is to make sure women feel beautiful and self-confident while wearing fashion clothing from Roses R Red, Inc.
