Who is Angelo Simon?

“I’m a photographer and I just love life”, answered wedding photography expert, Angelo Simon, owner of AM & FM Photography as he was being interviewed by Detroit Wedding Day.

“When I do a job for someone, I do it as if this is going to be my last job. I give it my all.”

Don’t let his humble demeanor fool you. Simon is a skillful professional photographer in every sense of the word. He earned a bachelor’s degree in photography from the esteemed Center of Creative Studies and has over 37 years of experience in the art of fashion photography, advertising photography, and photojournalism. His profession led him to work in London and Paris for several years. When in Europe he was even recruited to work on the Calvin Klein brand campaign.

Simon is passionate about his craft and even named his business in honor of his twin daughters Angela Maria and Francesca Maria, hence the business name AM & FM Photography.

Simon is quick to respond, “I listen. I listen to my client and try to anticipate what they will want 5 years from now when they look back at their wedding day pictures. My job is to document it and surprise them with images that they never thought that they would get”.

Experience and Vision

When asked about his working relationship with clients he says, that he makes sure that his clients understand that it’s all about them. He combines the client’s input and then masterfully crafts a plan around his vision to capture the moments. “Anyone can take a picture but not everyone is a photographer”, Simon says. He continues, “My clients feel comfortable with me. It’s not a job. It’s my passion. I love what I do and am fortunate that people pay me for it.”

Because he develops such a strong rapport with his client, he says that he has often been asked if he was part of the family or a close friend of the couple.

The Big Mistake Some Couples Make

Simon has seen an unfortunate trend over the past few years. Some couples try to save money and hire inexperienced photographers, friends or family members to take the wedding day photos, but they usually later discover that it was a big mistake by doing so.

“At the end of the day, the photos are all you have. If the photographer blows it, that is what the couple will remember. Anyone can take a picture. You pay me to move 6” to the right”, states Simon.

He explains the art of purposefully positioning couples and staging the scene, light, and other details to create that perfect memorable photograph.

Surprisingly, when couples hire AM & FM Photography, they usually receive upwards of 500 photographs that chronicle both the wedding and reception.
